Janja Garnbret Wins Two Gold Medals

After recovering from an injury, the Olympic gold medallist is back in top form with two wins this week

Janja Garnbret has taken first place at both the Innsbruck Boulder World Cup and Innsbruck Lead World Cup. In second was Ai Mori and in third was Jessica Pilz.

“The route was hard,” said Garnbret about the Lead finals route. “Just how I like it.” She won the overall Lead World Cup seasons in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, and 2022. “There were a lot of doubts and negative thoughts,” she said about returning to comps after recovering from a tow injury. “But winning two golds is just incredible, I’m very grateful.”

Americans Brook Raboutou and Natalia Grossman also made Lead finals but didn’t podium. See full results here. Read about Garnbret’s Boulder World Cup win earlier this week here.

In 2017, Garnbret sent her first 5.14d with Seleccio Natural in Santa Linya. Just a few days later, she climbed her second 5.14d with La Fabela pa la Enmienda. In November 2021, she onsighted Fish Eye 5.14c in Oliana, which was the world’s first-ever female onsight of the grade. In March 2022, she made the first female ascent of Bügeleisen V14 in Maltatal, Austria.
