Yoshiyuki Ogata is a top world cup boulderer who just locked down the fastest time in a speed comp by a Japanese climber at 6.373, he finished fifth overall. The event was held at the International Climbing Series in Tokyo. Full results here.

Ogata is eighth overall in the IFSC boulder world cup rankings this year. Ogata is considered a non-speed specialist, which means he’s currently a strong contender for a combined format. He got silver at the bouldering world cup in Moscow on April 15.

No Canadians competed at this event, but Lucas Uchida, Sean McColl and Jason Holowach are registered for the bouldering world cup on May 18 and 19 in Munich.

Official Japanese record 6.37s!!!😳 I can’t compete in Speed World Cup this year, that’s why I don’t have chance to show my speed climbing in official.But finally I got a precious chance and I did it!!!I’m so happy today😁 ・ スピードスターで日本公式記録を更新することができました!😳今シーズンはスピードワールドカップに出場することができず、公式の記録を残す場がありませんでした。
