Yoshiyuki Ogata Gets New Japanese Speed Record

Yoshiyuki Ogata is a top world cup boulderer who just locked down the fastest time in a speed comp by a Japanese climber at 6.373, he finished fifth overall. The event was held at the International Climbing Series in Tokyo. Full results here.

Ogata is eighth overall in the IFSC boulder world cup rankings this year. Ogata is considered a non-speed specialist, which means he’s currently a strong contender for a combined format. He got silver at the bouldering world cup in Moscow on April 15.

No Canadians competed at this event, but Lucas Uchida, Sean McColl and Jason Holowach are registered for the bouldering world cup on May 18 and 19 in Munich.
