14-Year-Old Sends 5.14d Adam Ondra Called His “Absolute Nemesis Route”

David Bermudez has repeated Víctimas Pérez, an upper-end 5.14d in Margalef, Spain

Spanish climber David Bermudez just redpointed Víctimas Pérez 5.14d at the El Raco de la Finestra crag in Margalef, Spain. The line was put up by Spanish legend Ramon Julian in 2008 and has since since repeats from several top climbers, including Daniel Woods, Jorge Diaz-Rullo, Adam Ondra, and Angie Scarth-Johnson.

Víctimas Pérez is a power endurance test. Sharing a start with Alex Megos’ Perfecto Mundo 5.15c, the route is characterized by sustained two-finger pocket-pulling up a wildly steep wall. The climb builds in intensity and ends with a nails-hard boulder problem. Many ascensionists believe Víctimas Pérez to be at the high end of 5.14d. Adam Ondra called the climb his “absolute nemesis route” and a “nightmare”. You can watch him climb the route in a video below.

“After falling 3 times on the final crux, today after 4 days of trying the route was the day,” said Bermudez about his send on Instagram. “This week I traveled to Margalef with the goal of trying this route that was always in my head, but the first few days I was sick and could not be in my best shape. Then I recovered and was able to advance quickly on the route. I feel very satisfied because this route is very special for me and having done it so quickly is very motivating to continue enjoying what I like the most and to face the next projects with enthusiasm.”

Only 14 years old, Bermudez has already amassed a mind-blowing sport climbing resume. The young climber has now sent two 5.14d routes – Víctimas Pérez in Margalef and Esclatamàsters in Perles, which he sent in January. Last month, he repointed El Calvario del Sicario 5.14b/c in Cuenca. He has two 5.14c routes to his name, and 14 5.14b’s. According to his 8a.nu page, he has climbed at least 26 routes 5.14a and harder since October 2022.
