Arco 2015, Day Four: Bouldering Results and Canadians Ready for Lead Comp

Bouldering has come to an end at this years Arco 2015 World Youth Climbing Championships.

The finalists put on a great show for the spectators. Ashima Shiraishi from the U.S. did not give up her lead in the Female Youth B category the entire competition. She took gold with authority.

Filip Schenk from Italy dominated the Male Youth B category to win gold. Janja Garnbret from Slovenia maintained her lead through finals for gold. Japan’s Yoshiyuki Ogata and Kai Harada took gold and silver by topping twice as many boulders as the rest of Male Youth A.

Stasa Gejo from Serbia edged out Japan’s Miho Nonaka for gold in the Female Junior category. Jongwon Chong from Korea topped his last boulder problem first try to win gold over Nicolas Pelorson from France. To watch the finals, visit here.

Lead qualifications start tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. Arco time. All Lead athletes will complete one qualifier tomorrow and a second on Wednesday. The top 26 athletes in each category will advance to semi-finals on Thursday.

The following athletes will be representing Canada in Lead.

In Female Youth B is Courtney Belleau and Bronwen Karnis from Ontario, and Sophie Buitendyk and Chloe Earle from B.C.

In Male Youth B is Nico Alaves and Mitchell Haight from Ontario, Joseph Witwicki from B.C. and Hunter McLaughlin from Alberta.

In Female Youth A Mia Leblanc-Limoges from Quebec, Julia Massullo from B.C., Eva Thompson from Alberta and Beth Vince from Ontario.

In Male Youth A is Alex Fricker from Alberta, Kyle Murdoch from B.C., Etienne Simard from Quebec and Lucas Uchida from Ontario.

In Female Junior will be Hannah Block and Caitlin Wu from B.C., Becca Frangos from Alberta and Pia Graham from Ontario.

In Male Junior is Andrew Funk and Matt Hendsbee from Alberta, Charles Sirois from Quebec and Nathan Smith from Ontario.
