Bold Solo And A New Route Big Wall Route In China

He Chuan has completed a new big wall on a famous mountain in China.

It took Chuan eight days, four more than planned, to climb the 20 pitches up the 700-metre South Peak of Mount Huashan in western China, which he named Climb Like You Are Dying 5.10R A3.

The route is Chuan’s second new line on Huashan. In 2014, he and Xiaofei Zhu established Never Give Up, which was the second route on the mountain range.

The South Peak is part of a five-peak massif known as China’s five great mountains. In 2009, Leo Houlding climbed his new route Northern Celestial Masterson on the West Peak.

On Chuan’s new route, which he did not place any bolts on, he had to use an ice axe to clean the difficult-to-manage vegetation in the cracks and on the ledges.
