New Upside-Down V14 from Shawn Raboutou

'What's Up Are You Down?' was a longstanding project beside Alphane V17

Earlier this year, Shawn Raboutou made the first ascent of What’s Up Are You Down? V14 (8B+) in Chrionico, Switzerland. Starting just left of Alphane V17 – another of Raboutou’s FAs – the problem was an old project that had yet to be successfully climbed. Mellow just released uncut footage of Raboutou’s FA, which you can watch below.

To dispatch the cruxy start of What’s Up Are You Down?, Raboutou climbed inverted with his feet above his hands. The problem then joins up with Alphane, climbing leftward across the horizontal crack and (relatively) easy topout. Shortly after Raboutou’s FA, Jakob Schubert picked up the second ascent of the line.

Raboutou was the first climber in the world to climb two V17s. His 2022 season was particularly incredible, establishing the V16s F*ck the System and Story of 3 Worlds and the V17s Alphane and Megatron. Last year, he repeated Box Therapy V15, and earlier this year, he made the second ascent of Devilution V16 in the Buttermilks.
