Nina Williams Tops The Heist V12

Technical, pumpy, and intimidating, The Heist V12 is a classic Colorado highball

American climber Nina Williams recently repeated The Heist V12 in Eldorado Canyon, Colorado. The 30-foot line climbs more like a short route than boulder. The climb leaves climbers falling into a deep slanting chute created by the boulder and an adjacent slabby rock face. Pads tame the danger, but huge falls are inevitable.

“Took some exciting whips on this thing over the course of 3 sessions,” said Williams on Instagram. “Reminded me of projecting Speed of Life back in the day where you’d fall and immediately have to engage cat reflexes.”

Kevin Jorgeson made the first ascent of the problem back in 2009. Carlo Traversi made the second ascent, and since then it’s been climbed by big names like Jonathan Siegrist, Colin Duffy, Bayes Wilder, and Beckett Hsin, among others. You can watch Siegrist, Duffy, and Wilder’s sends in the videos below. You can also watch Williams take a big fall off the line in her Instagram post.

Williams is well-known for conquering tall, scary highballs. In 2015 she sent her first V13 – Ray of Light in Rocklands, South Africa. In 2017, she made the first female ascent of the giant highball Ambrosia V11 in the Buttermilks. In 2018, she sent The Shining V13 and The Automator V13, both located in Rocky Mountain National Park. In May 2023, she repeated the iconic China Beach 5.14b in Rumney. At the very end of 2023, she topped Drew Ruana’s Florida Man V12 alongside Brooke Raboutou. In January, she topped Meadowlark Lemon Stand V12 in Red Rock.
