The 5.14+ Sends Continue for 14-Year-Old David Bermudez

The young climber has sent two 5.14d's and two 5.14c's over the past four months

Earlier today, 14-year-old Spanish climber David Bermudez sent “0,7 Ya!” 5.14c (8c+) in Cuenca, Spain. Over the past four months, Bermudez has been on a tare in Cuenca, Lleida, and Margalef. In late December, he sent his second 5.14c, Pal Norte in Margalef. In January, he sent his first 5.14d, Esclatamàsters near Lleida. He had a wildly successful March, flashing Historias de Amor 5.13d in Cuenca and redpointing Víctimas Pérez 5.14d and Combifetis 5.14b in Margalef.

His sending streak has continued this month in Cuenca. In early April, he sent Le Peor Maria 5.14b. After a few days of 5.13b onsights, he made today’s 5.14c redpoint. “0,7 Ya!” took him several weekends of work to complete. The line was bolted in the 1990s and hasn’t seen many ascents since it was put up. It’s known to be solid for the grade.

Bermudez has amassed a mind-blowing sport climbing resume for his age. He has two 5.14d routes to his name, plus three 5.14c’s and 14 5.14b’s. According to his 8a.nu page, he has climbed at least 27 routes 5.14a and harder since October 2022.
