Competition Climber’s First Crack is a 5.14a in Spain

Hannes Puman and Tom Randall recently visit Spain to have a go at Carlos Logroño’s crack called La Fuerza de la Gravedad, a 5.14a roof crack. Logroño had originally climbed the line on bolts and Randall made the first trad ascent.

Randall said after his first ascent, “Ticking the route for me, was a real. I’ve obsessively been trying to complete my global crack list by gnawing away at the obvious ticks, but when a real modern classic like La Fuerza de la Gravedad crops up then I really feel like I should sing its praises.”

Puman had never spent much time crack climbing, so Randall spent their time in Spain teaching him jamming techniques. Randall was surprised that Puman could power through hard roof crack moves using his competition strength. Puman made the second ascent with the gear pre-placed. In 2016, won the European Youth Cup for male juniors lead and has gone on to compete at lead and bouldering IFSC world cups. Pretty impressive first crack by Puman of this wild crack.
