Ice Climber Dies from Injuries After B.C. Avalanche

An ice climber has died after being involved in an avalanche on an ice climb near Field, B.C. called Massey’s. The 30-year-old woman was part of a guided group.

Parks Canada responded to the call and the woman was transferred to Calgary in a  STARS air ambulance.“Parks Canada extends our deepest condolences to her friends and family,” wrote Amy Krause, a communications officer with Parks Canada.

The avalanche rating for the day was moderate in the alpine, low at treeline and low below the treeline. There have been a number of large avalanches in the past few weeks. If you’re heading out be sure to check the avalanche forecast by visiting here.

On Christmas Day, Carl Hawkins died while ice climbing on Cascade Falls in Banff National Park during a solo. There have been a number of other avalanche-related deaths in North America this winter.
