IFSC World Cup 2016: India’s First, Japan Crushes and Canada Makes Semis

The first IFSC Bouder World Cup in India took place this past weekend in Mumbai. A number of Canadians travelled to the historic event where Shauna Coxsey was hoping to win her fourth straight World Cup. After Qualifications, Elise Sethna, Alannah Yip and Sean McColl had advanced to Semis, but none could crack the top six spots in order to proceed to Finals. Canadians’ final standings were: Sean McColl in 10th for Male, Eric Sethna in 23rd, Elan Jonas-McRae in 24th and Will Johnson in 36th; Elise Sethna in 17th for Female, Alannah Yip in 20th and Allison Vest in 25th.

Coxsey had advanced to Semis in fourth, but for the first time in 2016 did not advance to Finals. After Finals, two Japanese climbers finished in top three for both Male and Female, plus another three in the top nine for Male. Finals results below and for full results visit here. Although I felt like I climbed well in some respect, my head space was sub-par all round and something in my performance just didn't click so I was unfortunately left out of semis. Felt strong in qualifications today in Mumbai! Managed three flashes but I hit a couple stopper moves that held me just out of semi-finals. After a hot ☀️ and sweaty ? semi-final round this morning in India I ended up holding my spot at 17th. The problems were HARD but I had tons of fun and pulled as hard as I could! Excited for the next #ifscwc in Austria 🙂 ? @thecircuitclimbing

Semi finals at the Navi Mumbai World Cup are over and I placed 20th. I can't say that I am happy with my result, but (after some time to process) I realize there are positives for me to take away. I read every boulder correctly, and I stayed focused and in the zone for the entire round. Hopefully I can improve my climbing for next weekend's World Cup in Innsbruck! A nice hard semi-finals here in India; even though I only managed 2 bonuses, I much prefer this style! I felt pretty good but not as strong as I know I can be. I'm excited to get back to Europe, training, my ladies and my routine. With my 2 bonuses, I came 10th and top-10 is never a bad result. On a better day or with stronger willpower, I know I'd have topped 2-3 boulders. Innsbruck next week, the question is, how much training can I sneak in before it? Photo by @tenorwill
