Feb 22, 2011 – Geisler Goes Home But Kruk “Ready To Try Again”

Canadians Chris Geisler and Jason Kruk had to abandon their goal of climbing Cerro Torre without using Maestri's bolts.

Canadians Chris Geisler and Jason Kruk had to abandon their goal of climbing Cerro Torre without using Maestri’s bolts. The pair got within 40 m below the top of the headwall but had to bail when Geisler hit a blank section after leading an a “eight-hour pitch of techno aid [and] taking one whipper when the flake he was hooking on ripped”. Their decision to retreat was confirmed as a storm moved in creating whiteout conditions. Once safely in basecamp, Geisler had to return home but Kruk has remained and is “ready to try again”.
