Six Canadians Advance to Ice World Semis in China

It’s cold in northern China and Canada’s ice climbing world cup team have advanced to Semis in the Hohhot World Cup in Inner Mongolia.

This is the first time in a long time that six Canadians (all at the event) are advancing to Semis.

Top Canadian ice and mixed climber Gord McArthur posted on Instagram, “It’s been a wild experience so far in inner Mongolia, and after 12 hours in the -15°C to -20°C bitter temps, I’m getting ahold of my head space.

“I pulled a couple of good climbs out today, putting me into the next round. A little bit of excitement through all the craziness.”

Canadians Noah Beek advanced in fourth, Nathan Kutcher in ninth, McArthur in 12th and David Bouffard in 18th for the Males.

With temperatures staying in the minus-double digits, Canadian, who train in colder temperatures than most competitors, have a solid chance of heading to Finals and maybe a podium.
