Watch Pete Whittaker Free-Solo in Norway

In 2018, he rope-soloed El Capitan and Half Dome in under 24 hours

Top crack climber and big wall rope-soloist Pete Whittaker visits Norway where he free-solos the classic two-pitch Maos Gate.

“In preparation for a summer rope-solo climb I figured out some filming logistics on a local route at Tellnes,” said Whittaker. “As this route is very easy, I free-solo for efficiency to help practice some different angles and positions with the camera.”

In November 2016, he became the first person to rope-solo – all free – El Capitan in under 24 hours, finishing in 20 hours and six  minutes via Freerider. In 2018, he linked The Nose on El Capitan and the Northwest Face on Half Dome in just over 20 hours.
