Flatrock Fest, a Newfoundland Climbing Event

A great way for the climbing community to come together to celebrate of day of climbing at a classic crag

Flatrock is a popular rock climbing area about 20 minutes from St. John’s. It has the highest concentration of routes in Newfoundland with dozens of sport and trad climbs on sandstone sea cliffs.

For over a decade, the Alpine Club of Canada Newfoundland section’s Flatrock Climbing Festival has been a must-attend event for climbers on Canada’s east coast. Registration for the 2023 fest is now open – visit their event page here for more info.

The festival will begin at 10 a.m. on July 17 and goes until 4 p.m. There will be top ropes set up on over 20 climbs, including “on most of the classics and some more obscure routes.” The climb difficulty will range from 5.7 to 5.12c. There will also be two climbing clinics: Madison Bailey will be running an Advanced Sport Climbing Clinic, and Trevor Harris will be running a Trad Climbing Clinic.

This event is free for Alpine Club of Canada members. If you’re not already a member of the club, visit here to register.
