Indoor Weekly: Andrew Wilson is Interim National Coach
Climbing Canada Escalade (CEC) has announced that Andrew Wilson has accepted the position of interim National Coach.
As the CEC stated: “This involve Andrew overseeing, together with the High Performance Director and the High Performance Committee, all aspects of the National Team Program.
“Andrew’s experience and results as a coach in Canada are well known to the climbing community and involve developing world class athletes such as Sean McColl, Alana Yip and Will Stanhope, just to name a few.”
Wilson has been involved in climbing since he was 15 years old. He began his professional involvement in climbing in the mid-1990s, while studying exercise science, coaching and sport performance at the University of British Columbia.
High Performance director Jeff Thomson said: “I am extremely happy that Andrew has accepted my invitation to fill the National Coach position.
“In order for me to be able to do my job effectively and efficiently, I needed someone in that role who has an extensive and proven track record of producing Podium athletes.
“Andrew’s success over many years has shown to me that he has the knowledge and skills the CEC needs at this critical juncture in our development. I have had the pleasure of knowing Andrew for many years and believe he is not only one of the best climbing coaches I have ever met, but also one of the best overall coaches I have ever seen in any sport.”
Wilson will be working with National team athlete’s personal coaches to work on training.
Wilson “will act as the interim coach up to and including the Open World Championships.
“Following the World Championships a review will take place and following that review the position of National Coach will be open to all applicants with a view to hiring a full time person.”
