New Petzl Helmets Give More Side and Top Protection
Petzl is manufacturing helmets that guarantee a certain level of protection throughout the entire helmet and not just the top.
These helmets carry Petzl’s proprietary label–TOP AND SIDE PROTECTION–for easy identification.
As Petzl points out, all of their climbing and mountaineering helmets provide a certain level of protection that helps protect the top of the head from falling objects.
This level of protection is guaranteed by the requirements of the EN 12492 and UIAA 106 standards.
However, impacts to the front, rear, and sides of the head occur just as frequently as impacts to the top of the head.
For this reason, Petzl is manufacturing helmets that guarantee a certain level of protection throughout the entire helmet and not just the top.

Well boys and girls, this is why you have to wear a helmet while trad climbing… I decided to not be scared this time and place my foot behind the rope, unfortunately the other foot decided to slip in the right moment for me to tumble down the wall headfirst. I guess this is the time to thank @petzl_official for making great helmets, so I only walked away with a a freaked out belayer (@katha_saurwein 😆)/photographer (@jonglassberg) and a stiff neck. Sometimes you have to admit failure 😑. Perfect preparation though for the worldcup in Vail this friday! • @louderthan11
