11-Year-Old Becomes Youngest to Climb 5.14d

Leo Cea has repeated a steep route in Chile, making sport climbing history

Leo Cea, who’s just 11 years and three months old, has climbed TecnoKing, a 5.14d Las Chilcas, a sport crag in Chile. The route was first climbed by Ronny Escobar in January, who proposed the grade of 5.14d.

Cea needed just under two weeks of working on Tecno King to make the second ascent, which comes only seven months after he climbed Herejía, his first 5.14a. According to Desnivel, who broke the story of Cea’s send thanks to his dad René, Cea is hoping to visit Spain in the near future.

In 2022, at the age of 12 years and nine months, Theo Blass became the youngest person to climb 5.14d with Trip Tik Tonik at Gorges du Loup. It took him around 10 sessions. The previous youngest climber to send 5.14d was Gianluca Vighetti, who was two months older than Theo.

Adam Ondra was 13 years old when he first climbed 5.14d. Watch Escobar on the FA of TecnoKing below.
