37-Acre Squamish Property to Sell for Tens of Millions

The Klahanie Campground is for sale and is being touted as a "trophy property"

Squamish has seen several large scale developments over the past few decades, which has resulted in the population going from around 10,000 people in 1980 to well over 20,000 people now. Anyone who’s visited Squamish over the past few years has noticed that there are far more tall buildings in and around downtown than 10 years ago.

And now, a new property listing has some locals worried that more tall buildings might be built in Squamish in the near future. A 37-acre piece of land five kilometres south of Squamish, where the Klahanie Campground sits, is currently for sale by court order. BC Assessment valued the land at nearly $12 million, but Re/Max realtor Manjit Claire told the The Squamish Chief that the price might be “in the $20-million-plus range.”

The listing reads that it’s zoned as tourist commercial (restaurant, campground, hotel, hostel, RV park, condos, etc.), and is called, “One of the largest tourism designated development sites on the Sea to Sky Corridor.”

Claire told the The Squamish Chief, “It’s a very rare property. Obviously, it is not within the reach of the average buyer, but for somebody who has the pockets to make it, it would be like a trophy property. It would be the gateway going into Squamish and Whistler. There’s an opportunity to create something really unique.”
