Access Reminders for Fall Cragging in Skaha

From dogs and music to smoking, the Skaha Climbers' Association has listed some things to keep in mind

As rain starts to fall in Squamish and snow accumulates in the Rockies, a lot of climbers are heading to Skaha. The Okanagan Valley climbing destination has some of the best rock and weather for fall cragging.

The Skaha Climbers’ Association (SCA) has published a list of reminders for climbers visiting the area. We’re sharing the list below in an effort to spread the word. Be sure to follow the SCA here. Watch an ascent of The Replicant 5.13d in Skaha below.

Music: Leave the ghetto blasters, boom boxes and fancy Bluetooth speakers for the car and the after party. I’m sure you love that tune but not everyone appreciates it and the noise can create difficulty for climbers trying to communicate with their belayer.
Dogs: Keep your furry friends on a leash, dogs being in the park is a privilege and off leash dogs threaten that privilege, no matter how well behaved Rover is.
Booty: Carabiners on an anchor are NOT booty they are a community service, consider replacing worn ones as you come across them! Draws hanging are also NOT booty but common practice and a sign someone is working that route.
Smoking: The fire situation in the Okanagan continues to be a huge concern, don’t be the reason for everyone to lose access to a precious resource. Be extremely prudent if you simply can’t do with out.
Be bear aware: They are around and it is a treat to see them. Dusk and dawn are common sighting times but they are around often, leave them be and pick up after yourself to avoid attractants at the crag that put these animals at risk.
Parking: Obey the signs, simple.
Donate: Consider donating to the Skaha Park Watch Society to help keep the parking lot safe.
