Alex Honnold’s Ascent of Belly Full of Bad Berries

Old footage from 2008 of his send of Belly Full of Bad Berries just dropped on YouTube

Belly Full of Bad Berries climbs an overhanging crack of various sizes that arches up and right away from the start. It was first climbed in 1997 by Brad Jackson. In 2008, Alex Honnold made one of the first known repeats. Michal Call has just released a new cut of his original film about Honnold’s send.

The first flash was by Pete Whittaker in 2011, with the second flash being in 2022 by Mari Salvesen. Last year, UK climber Alex Waterhouse flashed it and said, “Holds next to the anchor were meant to be a glorious respite, but my arms had long since failed and were nothing but. I somehow flipped myself back around, stuffed my knee into the crack and clipped the chains with a big scream. The best fight of my life on the flash of one of the best routes in the world, it doesn’t get much better than that.”

Honnold is one of the most accomplished free-soloists ever, with historic ascents in famous mountain ranges around the world.
