Ben Hanna Records a 5.15a Climb in Utah

In 2022, he repeated Ace of Spades at the wild Poptire Cave but just recently shared the news

American Ben Hanna repeated Ace of Spades 5.15a at Poptire in Utah back in 2022, but waited until now to share his ascent. Like many climbers, Hanna logged his ascent on 8a.nu, noting, ”I’ve been wating a long time to post this! First time making it through the boulder, and I’d be damned if I was going to fall on the top and have to fight through that boulder again.”4

About why he kept his send a secret, he said, “It was hard at first for sure, but after a while it actually became quite fun. I had been thinking about this idea of making a climbing film with a few hard climbs which nobody knew I had done and when I sent Ace of Spades I decided this was my chance to make that film. I never thought it would take more than a year to make the film but in the end I’m really glad I committed to it.”

In 2017, Hanna became one of the youngest climbers to establish a new 5.14d when he opened Helsinki at Caballo Lake, New Mexico at age 18.  In 2023, he repeated Bone Tomahawk 5.14d and The Day the Earth Stood Still 5.14c.

Hanna is currently in Spain for the next few weeks to try some other hard sport climbs. Watch him send Lee Majors 5.14c below.
