Camilla Bonnell, 9, Climbs 5.13d at RRG

With her send, she becomes one of the youngest American climbers to tick the grade

Nine-year-old Camilla Bonnell has climbed her hardest route to date with Ultraperm 5.13d at Bob Marley Crag in the Red River Gorge.

“She had previously attempted the route back in November 2023,” said her father, Dan Bonnell. “After making progress on her last trip to The Red, Camilla was able to come back over Easter weekend and successfully redpoint the route.”

On the same trip exactly one year ago, Camilla sent her second 5.12a with Tacit, also at the Bob Marley Crag. “Camilla was inspired watching Maya Ene send Southern Smoke 5.14c only moments later,” said Dan. Southern Smoke shares the upper half with Ultraperm.

Camilla was also motivated by her friend, Kwon Gauen from Korea, after she sent both Ultraperm and Southern Smoke last year. “I was excited to send my hardest route,” said Camilla. “Now I look forward to trying other routes and getting on Southern Smoke.”
