Climbers and Their Cat Rescued From Mountain

Rocky Mountain Rescue Group got two owners and their cat Link back to safety from the First Flatiron

Earlier this month, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group shared a photo on social media saying they were “Moonlighting as MEOWtain Rescuers!” It was after they rescued two climbers and their cat from the First Flatiron in near Boulder, Colorado.

The photo, which you can see below, shows two climbers sitting perched high on the famous rocky peak with the cat, whose name is Link. Rescuers gave them headlamps and lowered all three to safety. In a video on Link’s Instagram account, he and his owner Austin can be seen climbing the North Ridge on Montezuma Tower in the Garden of the Gods. Colorado Springs

“I rarely take her out of the backpack while we climb unless there is a solid ledge to stand on,” Link’s owners have said. “I have also installed many redundancies to keep her safe in the backpack and harness to provide extra safety measures… Her life is of the (utmost) concern to me and I take it very seriously whenever we’re out doing something like this… I would not do any of this if she did not enjoy being out there.”

The First Flatiron is where several climbers have epics and close calls, read more about it here. Link isn’t the first pet that climbers have brought into the mountains, as many will remember Whisper, who belonged to the late Dean Potter. Whisper and Potter were often seen together doing everything from rock climbing to BASE jumping – watch a video of Whisper below.
