Dani Arnold Free Solos 550-metre Cima Grande Route

The first ascent of the big route was first climbed in 1933

On Sept. 5, Swiss climber Dani Arnold free soloed The Comici/Dimai on Cima Grande di Lavaredo in the Tre Cime di Lavaredo range in the Dolomites. It took him only 46 minutes and 30 seconds to clib the 550-metre route.

The north face route was first climbed by Emilio Comici, Giovanni and Angelo Dimai in 1933, Comici went on to solo it in 1937. In 1956, Toni Egger made the first winter solo

The 35-year-old Comici had climbed the route a number of times before. Christoph Hainz had soloed the route in 48 minutes a in 2014. In 2015 he managed the fastest solo ascent of the Matterhorn north face in one hour and 46 minutes. He also has the record for soloing the Walker Spur on Grandes Jorasses.
