Helicopter Crash Leaves Three Dead in Alps

Among those killed was American Adam George, an esteemed ski guide and climber

Earlier this week, a helicopter with six people on board crashed while on the northern side of Petit Combin, a mountain in southern Switzerland. According to a statement from the Police Cantonale Valaisanne, three people lost their lives and three others were injured.

The three people who died have been named as pilot Jerome Lovey, James Goff from Ireland and Adam George from America. George was an accomplished climber and ski guide, and the husband to fellow ski guide and climber Caroline George. Together, they have a young daughter. The three surviving passengers were Edward Courage and brothers Teddy and Guy Hitchens.

The helicopter was a B3 operated by Air Glaciers. The cause of the crash is under investigation by both the Swiss Federal Prosecutor’s Office and the Swiss Safety Investigation Service. This is the third helicopter crash in the area in the past year. According to The Telegraph, eyewitnesses said the helicopter was consumed by an avalanche.
