Starting last weekend with the World Cup in Wujiang, China, and continuing for the next five years, gear manufacturer Trango, founded in Boulder, Colorado, will be the sole safety gear provider for all International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) competitions.

“We have supported competitions with gear, holds, athletes, and sponsorship throughout our history,” says Trango’s president, Chris Klinke, who attended the Wujiang competition. “To support the IFSC on a global scale with its safety gear needs is a tremendous opportunity to combine our passion for climbing with our goal of supporting the community.”

The partnership aims to enhance the safety and quality of sport climbing competitions worldwide, particularly as sport climbing gains visibility and popularity, including its inclusion in the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris in 2024. It will be included in the initial program in Los Angeles in 2028.

Competitors will use the gear in upcoming events, including the Climbing and Paraclimbing World Cups, World Championships, and Youth World Championships.

Upcoming IFSC competitions with Trango partnership this year include the six-day event from June 24 to June 30 at the new outdoor Innsbruck Climbing Center in Austria, including Paraclimbing, lead, and boulder, where 400 climbers from 30 countries will compete for gold. The next comp, with a backdrop of Place du Mont-Blanc, will take place in Chamonix, France, from July 12 to 14, featuring lead and speed climbing. Following this will be the IFSC event in Briançon, France, from July 17 to 19, including lead, boulder, and speed. After that, it will be in Koper, Slovenia, from September 6-7, and finally, in Seoul, South Korea, from October 2 to 6.

“We are very happy to welcome Trango into the IFSC family,” says Marco Scolaris, IFSC President. “One of our aims with technical sponsorship is to create a path of growth and study to improve the sport. Safety in our sport is an absolute priority, and in Trango, we have found a reliable partner with great experience. ”

The IFSC is the global authority overseeing all dimensions of competitive climbing internationally. It provides a platform for climbers to compete and works towards the sport’s development and governance. The IFSC also educates coaches, judges, and route setters to maintain high sports standards.

The top competitors in the IFSC’s world rankings include Sorato Anraku from Japan, who leads in both men’s boulder and lead categories; Janja Garnbret from Slovenia, who leads in women’s boulder and lead; Peng Wu from China, who tops the men’s speed category; and Aleksandra Miroslaw from Poland, who leads in women’s speed.

Since its inception in 1991, Trango has offered everything from gear to training tools. Trango is also the U.S. distributor for the Spanish-based Tenaya line that includes advanced performance shoes including the Mastia and Indalo.

Trango’s gear offerings for IFCS events include the Reaction Competition Quickdraws, which are black and pink keylock Reaction Bent Gate Carabiners attached to straight dogbones and maillons.
