Jakob Schubert Starts 2017 with Pachamama 5.15a

Jakob Schubert has reported on Instagram about his repeat of Pachamama 5.15a in Oliana, Spain. The hard route was first climbed by Chris Sharma in 2009 and repeated two years later by Sachi Amma. Schubert said after his send, “Perfect start into 2017 today at Oliana by sending Pachamama. Still felt pretty tired this morning from the New Year’s party we had in Barcelona, but at 3 p.m. I decided to do my first actual sending try and got surprised.”

Amma noted on his 8a.nu scorecard, “The best route in my life. I spent seven days last year and seven days this year. Harder than Papichulo 5.15a. I am sooo happy.” Papichulo is next to Pachamama and many more climbers have sent it. While both are rated 5.15a, Ethan Pringle wrote on Amma’s 8a.nu, “Good job Sachi! I’ve been on this route. It is really, really hard. Must be borderline 9b (5.15b).”
