Janja Garnbret Onsights Her Second 5.14b with American Hustle

Olympic gold medalist Janja Garnbret has onsighted two 5.14b Oliana sport routes within the past week. And many are wondering just how many more history-making sends she’s going to make while in Spain.

First was the famous 50-metre-tall Fish Eye 5.14b which was the first-ever female onsight of the grade. Shortly after Fish Eye, Garnbret onsighted the neighbouring route American Hustle 5.14b. The first ascent was by Sam Elias in 2014. According to 8a.nu, Cedric Lachat is the only other climber on record to have onsighted Fish Eye and American Hustle.

Part of Garnbret’s warm-up for her second 5.14b onsight was climbing the lower section of La Dura Dura 5.15c. It’s reported that she stuck a crux dyno to a two-finer gaston. Sasha DiGiulian became the first woman to tick American Hustle back in 2018, watch the video below.

At least 10 women have onsighted a confirmed 5.14a, including Katie Brown on Omaha Beach, Josune Bereziartu on Hidrofobia’, Charlotte Durif on Les rois du pétrole, Maja Vidmar on Humildes pa casa, Sacha DiGiulian on Omaha Beach, Kajsa Rosén on T1 full-equip, Laura Rogora on L-mens, Anak Verhoeven on Gorillas en la niebla, Martina Demmel on Humildes pa casa, and Vita Lukan Geminis.
