Javier Aguilar is Blind and Just Sent 5.12d

The champion climber ticked the grade after giving it 10 tries on top-rope

Javier Aguilar just climbed To Su Puta Madre a Caballo 5.12d in Los Cahorros, Spain. His the first totally blind climber to send the grade on record.

According to Christopher Schafenacker who wrote about the climb for Rock & Ice here, “Aguilar first worked To Su Puta Madre a Caballo on top rope, needing just 10 attempts to memorize the beta.”

Aguilar made the podium at the 2018 and 2019 Paraclimbing World Cup and is a champion swimmer. He had previously climbed 5.12b/c. He was belayed by Migue Sancho.  Aguilar talked about his send on the Spanish-language podcast Rock & Joy, listen below.

@rockandjoy⠀ .⠀ Más info y fotografías ✉️miguel@rockandjoy.com⠀ ⠀ —⠀ ⠀ EN First blind climber sending a 7c in the world!??⠀ .⠀ Today I have the pleasure of announcing that my friend Javier Aguilar (@javieraguilaramoedo ) has become the first blind climber to send (lead) 7c. with the bouldery "To su p*** madre a caballo" with myself belaying at the granadian crag of Los Cahorros⠀ .⠀ After the isolation Javi came to the rock super psyched and made the most of the unusual cool condition for his achievement.
