Jon Siegrist Makes Quick Work of Canmore 5.14s

Jon Siegrist has been busy visiting crags in Alberta’s Bow Valley for the past few weeks. While he’s not in Canada to project anything “hard” he is jumping on some local test-pieces and making them look easy.

Mike Doyle, top Canadian climber who is based in Vegas, is also in Canmore and said, “It’s been difficult keeping up with all of Jonathan’s ascents the last few weeks here in the Bow Valley.

“He says he hasn’t been projecting, just cragging. Well, here he is using his Jumbo Love 5.15b fitness and power for quick ascents of both Prime Time and First Flight (both 5.14c). Not bad for just ‘cragging.’ Congrats!”

Earlier in the week, Siegrist also made the second ascent of Evan Hau’s new Cobalt Gecko 5.14c at Planet X, which Siegrist said was likely his favourite route at the crag. About Planet X, Siegrist said, “All I remember from when I first briefly visited Planet X seven years ago is not much liking it.

“I found it confusing, insecure and hard. Well, it’s still confusing, insecure and hard but so much more fun now for some reason. It’s awesome how much we can grow and change our preferences and our strengths. I’ve been climbing for 14 years but I absolutely still consider myself a student.”
