March 24, 2011 – Unified Bouldering Championships Coming To New York City

On June 23, 2011, the Unified Bouldering Championships (UBC) Pro Tour will be coming to New York City’s Central Park. In an audacious move, the comp will be held outdoors as part of the 7th annual Adventures NYC event presented by The North Face.

While outdoor competitions on artificial walls have been popular in Europe, most North American events have been relegated to indoor venues. The space limitations of these facilities are often cited as one of the reasons for the slower growth of competitive climbing in North America. Outdoor events like the UBC Pro Tour, that are less restricted by climbing wall height and spectator capacity, could help increase the popularity of competition climbing.
