Matilda Soderlund Sends Her First V13 in Sweden

She's one of the few top Swedish climbers to climb both V13 and 5.14d

Matilda Soderlund, 27, has sent her first V13 with Armstrong Assis in Nockeby, Sweden. The Swedish climber has also ticked 5.14d in the past. Other top women who’ve climbed both 5.14d and V13 include Ashima Shiraishi, Angy Eiter, Josune Bereziartu and Barbsi Zangerl.

Soderlund has also flashed two 5.14a sport routes and made three 5.13d onsights. Her first 5.14d was Elder Statesman at Frankenjura, of which she told Rock & Ice: “I really like the style in the Frankenjura because it’s quite techy and fingery, which I prefer. And there’s a lot of climbing. So many hard climbs and interesting and challenging routes. So you never run out of projects.”

In a 2020 interview here, Soderlund said, “I really want to do something that matters and use climbing as a tool to make an impact. I’m building my life and career around climbing and I want to use my platform to inspire and affect people in a positive way by standing up for what I think is important, e.g. equality and the climate crisis.”
