Miška Izakovičová Sends 36-Pitch Yosemite 5.13 with Golden Gate

In 2018, the experienced big wall climber freed Freerider 5.13 on El Capitan

Slovakian climber Miška Izakovičová has repeated Golden Gate, a 36-pitch 5.13 on Yosemite’s El Capitan. This is her second free route up El Cap, with her first being Freerider 5.13a back in 2018. Also this week, Babsi Zangerl and Lara Neumeier climbed a 35-pitch 5.13 on El Cap, read about it here.

Golden Gate climbs the first 20 pitches of Salathé Wall before a technical down-climb, a 5.13a, the 5.12 Golden Desert, the A5 Traverse and the Razorblades pitch. The first ascent was in 2000 by German brothers Alexander and Thomas Huber.

About her send of Golden Gate, Izakovičová said, “I value this ascent even more because I lead every single pitch of the route, free-climbed every single pitch and hauled most of it. I had a great time up there and will write more about it soon. I still can’t believe I did it, it’s been pretty epic and I had to dig deep to send.”

Izakovičová is an accomplished climber with several test-piece routes to her name. In 2015, she climbed the 350-metre Brid Klina 5.12 in Croatia, in 2017, she climbed the 200-metre Super Dupont 5.12 on Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix, in 2019 she climbed the 300-metre Westie Face of Leaning Tower in Yosemite at 5.13a, and is 2018 she climbed The Phoenix 5.13 in Yosemite, and the 800-metre Hoka Hey 5.11d in Norway onsight in a day. In 2021, she climbed the 400-metre Bonatti-Oggioni to the Brouillard Ridge to the top of Mont Blanc.
