News Flash: Canadian Elan Jonas McRae Sends Sacrifice 5.15a

He's the second Canadian to tick a 5.15

Elan Jonas McRae has made the third ascent of Sacrifice 5.15a in Echo Canyon, a route that Evan Hau bolted and Adam Ondra made the first ascent of in 2018. The route is in the Coliseum on the Saddle-up wall. Hau made the second ascent earlier this year.

Jonas McRae is no stranger to hard sends, back in 2016 he repeated Ciudad de Dios in Santa Linya, which at the time was called 5.14d/15a. Edu Marin, who made the first ascent in 2009, has since suggested a downgrade to 5.14d.

Last summer, Jonas McRae made two 5.14+ first ascents in B.C.: The Missing Link at Christie Falls and The Remnant 5.14+ in Skaha. He was one of B.C.’s top comp climbers in years past with a number of podiums.

He was attempting Fight Club 5.15b earlier this year with other climbers, but a hold broke on one of the crux sections. It’s unknown if the hold was glued back on. With a few more months of summer rock weather, we’ll surely see many more hard sends coming from Canada’s top sport crags.
