Prana Responds to Chris Sharma Photo Criticism

The apparel company Prana has issued a statement following people’s criticisms of a recent photo they published of Chris Sharma bouldering on delicate cave features in flip flops. For the story and photo of Sharma visit here.

Russ Hopcus, president of Prana, stated: “This page used to feature an image of one of our ambassadors climbing the wall of a cave. After hearing from a number of members of the community who were deep and rightfully concerned about the impact of our casual depiction of climbing on fragile cave formations, we removed the photo.

“We know that responsible caving is critical to cave conservation. It was a mistake to stage this photo and to share it here in our digital and print catalogs, and for this we apologize. We count on our customers to let us know if something is wrong with our products, our service, or the way we represent ourselves to the world. We encourage you to explore with care in these most rare spaces on our planet.”
