Rock Climber Dies in Eldorado Canyon, Details Unknown
A group of climbers finds an unconscious man who appeared to have fallen while free-soloing
A rock climber was found dead on Wednesday evening in Eldorado Canyon State Park after he fell from the Rincon Wall, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office has said.
Rescue crews were called to the area around 5:45 p.m. after a group of four climbers found an unconscious man. The climbers reported that it appeared the man had been free-soloing. He wasn’t conscious or breathing when the group found him, authorities said.
Rocky Mountain Fire and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group were first to arrive, and they confirmed the 31-year-old man was dead. The recovery took three hours. The death was investigated by Boulder County Sheriff’s Office detectives and Boulder County Coroner’s Office investigators.
“The incident was not deemed suspicious and there is no threat to the public,” the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The identity of the fallen climber, who was from Lakewood, has not been released pending his family’s notification.
