The Dean Hart Experience is New 5.12b in Squamish

Colin Moorhead and Matt Waring recently sent an abandoned project in Squamish with the first ascent of The Dean Hart Experience 5.12b. The pitch is above an established route called Ron Zalko Workout 5.12a which was recently re-cleaned.

They start off Astro Ledge in the North Walls next to The Calling. Ron Zalco Workout is a sustained splitter layback corner and Dean Hart Experience is a bolted technical arete/corner with big exposure. Top Squamish photographer Chris Christie got some amazing images, see below.

“Since starting to put up a handful of routes myself this summer,” said Waring. “I’ve got a new level of appreciation for dedicated developers like Colin. As climbing grows in popularity, it’s amazing how few people realize the hundreds of hours of labor that go into creating rock climbs. These are the unsung heroes of rock climbing and they do it purely out of love and passion for the sport. If you ever hang out with any of them, make sure you give them a big high five and buy them a beer.”
