Trapped Climber Rescued in Bugaboos

Search and rescue teams used a mechanical device to extract the stuck climber

Columbia Valley Search and Rescue were busy this weekend, with their first call being a climber who was trapped beneath a boulder below Crescent Spire.

The search team said on social media, “A team of rescuers responded and were able to lift the boulder off the subject’s leg with a mechanical lifting device. The subject was transported to Invermere for further medical aid.”

While the Bugaboo-Snowpatch Col is open to travel, much of Snowpatch Spire is closed due to the rockfall this past winter – read about it here.  While it’s not common, climbers due get stuck beneath boulders and even in cracks on Bugaboo routes.
