Will Bosi on the Difference of V16 and V17

With several V16 sends to his name and three V17 repeats, the Scottish sender tries to make sense of the hardest grades in the world

Over the past few seasons, Will Bosi went from climbing new 5.15s to becoming one of the world’s leading boulderers with repeats of three V17 problems, first ascents of V15 and ticks of several V15 and V14 problems.

The Nugget Climbing Podcast regularly has Bosi on to talk about his recent sends and in this week’s video, Bosi breaks down the differences between V16 and V17 and what might need to change to make things more consistent. Long story short, The two grades aren’t as easy to tell apart as V15 from V14 or V16 from V15.

Bosi’s other V17 ascents include Shawn Raboutou’s Alphane in Chironico in 2022 and Nalle Hukkataival’s Burden of Dreams in Lappnor in 2023. Simon Lorenzi has also climbed three V17 problems with Soudain Seul in Fontainebleau in 2021, Alphane and Burden of Dreams in 2023.
