Yosemite Hit With Cold Winter Weather

While snow in the Valley is normal this time of year, it was so cold that even Joshua Tree saw a small accumulation of snow

Yosemite National Park got its first hit of winter weather this past week as most of North America experienced record-setting low temperatures.

“Yosemite National Park received its first significant snowfall of the season over the weekend,” park spokesperson Scott Gediman said to SFGate. Storms from the northeast Pacific carried snow all the way to Joshua Tree, which rarely sees snow at low elevations. “I can confirm that our satellite-based snowfall estimates did record some snow over Joshua Tree National Park yesterday,” Ted Whittock, a weather forecaster said.

Jim Bagnall, a meteorologist with the weather service, said that “it’s just normal winter stuff coming through” about this January weather in Yosemite. To check current conditions in Yosemite visit the National Park webcam page here.
