Climber Loses Foot After Big Fall, Owes a Million Dollars – Donate to Help

Anna Parsons took an 80-foot fall climbing Snake Dike and broke nearly all of her major bones

Anna Parsons was visiting Yosemite Valley this summer when she took a 24-metre fall while climbing Snake Dike. Her injuries were extensive and she now owes over $1.2 million in hospital fees after having her foot amputated.

The 21-year-old travelled to the U.S.A. from her New Zealand before moving to Canada for a foreign exchange program. Her and her climbing partner Jack Evans study marine ecology at the University of Otago. After arriving in Yosemite, they warmed up on Swan Slab Gully, a three-pitch 5.6 near Yosemite Falls. They then started up Snake Dike, a notoriously run-out 5.7 that climbs the southwest face of Half Dome. Parsons broke her neck, spine, pelvis, ribs, and feet, but sustained no head injuries.

“Parsons was rescued and cared for by some outrageous and courageous people,” said Jessica Ennor on the fundraising page. “Anna would like to say a huge thank you to the SARS team who got her off the wall. She has been overwhelmed by the love and messages and support she has received from everyone.” *Donate Here*
