Man Arrested for Climbing Las Vegas Sphere

A climber is facing several charges after climbing the world's largest circular entertainment venue

Maison DesChamps, 23, was arrested after climbing the exterior of the Sphere at the Venetian in Las Vegas, according to police. The top of the Sphere stands at 366 feet or 112 metres and is considered the largest spherical structure in the world with a 580,000-square-foot exterior.

He began his illegal climb of the entertainment venue shortly after 10 a.m., saying that it was to “raise funds for an unhoused pregnant woman in financial distress.” A link on his Instagram takes you to this fundraiser page which has raised over $30,000 as of today.

He shared several videos to his Instagram account, in which he’s wearing a GoPro on his head. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said that he was arrested at the top of the Sphere and charged with one felony, destroying a property of another worth greater than $5,000, and a gross misdemeanour, conspiracy to destroy private property.

He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center, and according to a Washington Post report.
