Miranda Oakley Talks About Her Life As A Climber

Take brief look into Miranda Oakley’s life as a full-time climbing guide, big wall climber and local to Yosemite Valley.

Over the past few years, Oakley has established herself as one of the best traditional free climbers around.

She’s onsighted hard gear routes like Tricks are for Kids 5.13 in Indian Creek and sent Blowhard 5.12+ on the Incredible Hulk.

She grew up in Maryland and started climbing in a gym as a teenager. She earned her bachelor of arts degree in International Studies at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

Less than a week after graduating in 2006, she packed up the little gear she owned and made her way out west to work and live in Yosemite National Park.

In 2016, she became the first woman to rope solo the Nose in less than 24 hours and has done first ascents in Patagonia, the High Sierra of California and the Coastal Range of B.C.
