Over the past decade, a number of Star Wars cast and crew spent time in Ireland filming scenes for The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Luke Skywalker’s remote sanctuary was located on Skellig Michael in County Kerry. It was where Rey finally discovered Luke in The Force Awakens.
Other scenes were filmed in the Wild Atlantic Way, locations like Cork and Kerry to Clare. The crew also filmed at Malin Head in Donegal, Ireland’s most northerly point, on the Inishowen Peninsula. Local Hugh Farren said, “It was unbelievable that Star Wars was filming a mile and a half away from us. The buzz that we had for the month was surreal”.
“Go mbeidh an fórsa leat!” is Irish for “May the force be with you!” Donegal is a popular rock climbing area with a number of classic routes, see the short film below. Enjoy May the fourth and be safe if you head out climbing.

May the Fourth be with you! If you are in Ireland, don't miss the first-ever "May the Fourth" Festival 2018, a three-day celebration in the heart of Co Kerry on the Wild Atlantic Way. If you want to see Luke Skywalker’s hermit home, take a boat trip out around Skellig Michael, and its sibling Little Skellig, to get a closer look at the ancient island that’s gone down in cinematic history.
