Mike Tyson’s Face is an American Rock Climb
The pumpy 5.12a is found at New River Gorge in West Virginia
New River Gorge has some classic sandstone test-piece routes, with several of them being found at the Bubba City area, which includes Sandstonia. One of the more popular 5.12a sport climbs is called Mike Tyson’s Face, it was first climbed by famed coach Eric Horst and his climbing partner Eric McCallister.
The sandstone route starts up an overhanging section before the burly crux between bolts three and five with the fourth bolt being the hardest to clip. It’s named after the famous boxer Mike Tyson, who recently announced that he would return to the ring to box YouTube star Jake Paul.
The New River Gorge is one of the largest climbing areas in the eastern US. There are over 3,000 routes on over 100 kilometres of cliffs, plus hundreds of boulders. The rock is similar to that found at Chattanooga more so than the sandstone found in Red River Gorge.
