14-Year-Old Beckett Hsin Climbing V15

The young climber repeated Daniel Woods' The Game late last year

In December 2023, 14-year-old Beckett Hsin sent The Game V15 (8C) in Boulder Canyon, Colorado. Daniel Woods made the first ascent of The Game back in February 2010 after putting in 17 days of effort over two years.

Carlo Traversi made the second ascent a year later, and since then it’s seen repeats by a who’s who of boulderers including Jimmy Webb, Matt Fultz, Ryuichi Murai, Drew Ruana, and Zach Galla, among others. Woods originally proposed V16 for the bloc, but later revised his grade assessment due to new beta being discovered and hold quality improving from brushing.

Mellow recently released Hsin’s send footage of The Game, which you can watch below. Hsin sent his first V14 shortly after turning V14 in September last year, Tyler Landman’s Midnight Express in Boulder Canyon. The young climber has six V13’s to his name, and many V12’s.

“So psyched to have done this boulder that I’ve been dreaming about for so long,” said Hsin on Instagram after sending The Game. “I really expected this to be a super long term project over this season, and I’m still shocked that I actually did it. I put a few sessions on it last year and couldn’t make any progress. This year I came back and made really good progress every day and on the last day everything clicked , and I sent only 5 days into the season (8 days in total).”
