Adam Ondra’s Second Hardest Flash Ever

While on a quick stop to Slovenia in Fall 2023, he added another hard route to his jaw-dropping flash and onsight ticklist

On October 23, Adam Ondra visited the Sopota crag in Slovenia to try some hard routes. He was joined by pro climber and local Jernej Kruder, who showed Ondra the moves of Peščena Ura 5.14d (9a). Kruder opened the line back in 2020, which features a dyno down low that requires a ton of coordination to pull off.

After falling on the route In Time 5.14d, Ondra gathered Kruder’s beta and tried Peščena Ura. He stuck the low-percentage dyno and ended up flashing the route. “It was a very memorable one-day trip to this very special place with a waterfall, flashing a very special route, Peščena ura [5.14d], with a crazy dyno at the beginning,” said Ondra on Instagram. “Quite the opposite of what is considered a good route for flash.” Ondra just released a new film on his Peščena Ura flash, which you can watch below.

Ondra had a successful outdoor season in Fall 2023. After making the first ascent of Ratatouille 5.14d and Filantrop L2 5.14c in Slovakia in late September, he went on to FA B je to! 5.15b and To je to! 5.14b in Croatia. He then onsighted Inferno do Vrha 5.14b and Kingslayer 5.14b and FA’d Fantazija 5.15a in Slovenia. In late October, he flashed Peščena Ura 5.14d in Slovenia. In early November, he made the first ascent of Chicken Nose 5.15a in Switzerland and onsighted El Gran Bellanco 5.14c/d in Montanejos, Spain. While in Montanejos, he also redpointed La Parada de los Monstruos, FA’d El Maquinista 5.15b, and established a 5.14a sport multi-pitch.

Ondra is arguably the best sport route flasher/onsighter in the world. According to his 8a.nu, he has flashed two 5.14d routes and famously, one 5.15a – Supercrackinette 5.15a in Saint-Léger du Ventoux, France. He’s also onsighted four 5.14d routes and 23 5.14c’s.
