Ice Season Warm-Up: Jon Walsh Climbs Ice Nine WI6

The wild ice climb is found on the Icefields Parkway

Rockies climber Jon Walsh heads up the classic Ice Nine WI6 on the Icefields Parkway. The Icefields Parkway runs 230 kilometres from Lake Louise in Banff National Park to Jasper in Jasper National Park.

Some of Canada’s most classic ice routes are found along the highway, often found below glaciers and in gullies along both sides of the parkway. The Columbia Icefield feeds the Pacific, Atlantic and Arctic oceans.

Some must-climb routes on the Parkway, include Polar Circus WI5, Weeping Wall WI4, Bow Falls WI3 and Murchinson Falls. The first ascent of Ice Nine was in 1974 by Alan and Adrian Burgess and Bugs McKeith. Follow Walsh on Instagram below.
