Hard New Patagonia Big Wall Aid Climb

Four years after climbing a new 700-metre aid climb, Luka Krajnc and Luka Lindic have returned to the Fitz Roy massif

Slovenian climbers Luka Krajnc and Luka Lindic have climbed a new route on the south face of Aguja Poincenot in the Fitz Roy massif. This new route is one of the most difficult opened in Patagonia in recent memory.

Lindic shared the news online, saying they named the climb Pot (The Path), noting, “It was so much worth it to stick with it despite all the hits along the way. What a privilege to be able to open such a line nowadays.”

They climbed 500 metres of new ground before continuing up the Whillans route to the summit of the iconic mountains. Planet Mountain noted they started up the granite big wall on Feb. 23 and climbed until Feb. 26, finding several crux sections along the way with the hardest sections coming in at 6c A3.

The two experienced alpinists wanted to climb the route last year, but didn’t try it due to bad conditions. Four years ago, they made the first ascent of a new 700-metre 7a+ A3 up Aguja Saint Exupéry in Patagonia from Feb. 20 to 22. They called their new route Mir, which is Peace in English – read more about it here.
